Nature is resilient to disturbances thanks to biodiversity

And when we witness miracles such as habitats returning to their full glory after being ravaged by humans or natural disasters, it is a reminder that we too are capable of such resilience despite, you know, the horrors of life. ¹

“Decentralization” means that the mechanisms maintaining those functions are scattered throughout the system, not located exclusively together, so that a localized disturbance doesn’t remove one or more vital parts of the whole system. ²
